👣 What You Will Experience

Your journey begins at the entrance of the national park, where you will meet your licensed local guide. As you step into the rainforest, you’ll immediately feel the fresh air, hear the calls of tropical birds, and be surrounded by lush greenery.

During the trek, your guide will share fascinating insights about the jungle and help you spot some of the amazing wildlife that lives here. Of course, the highlight of the trek is the chance to encounter wild orangutans, one of the most endangered great apes in the world. With their curious eyes and gentle behavior, meeting them in their natural environment is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Besides orangutans, you may also see Thomas leaf monkeys, long-tailed macaques, pig-tailed macaques, hornbills, monitor lizards, and many other species of birds and insects. Your guide will also explain the medicinal uses of jungle plants and show you some of the giant tropical trees that make this forest so special.

Halfway through the trek, we take a break to enjoy fresh tropical fruits in the middle of the jungle — a refreshing way to recharge before continuing the walk.

At the end of the trek, you have two options:

  • Return by walking back through the jungle, OR

  • Experience the fun of a “jungle taxi” tubing ride down the Bohorok River on big rubber tubes — a relaxing and exciting way to return to Bukit Lawang.
